One Tiny Life

One tiny life
Born only four weeks ago
Solid black with tiny paws
Orphaned by misfortune
Found and rescued
Valiantly he tried
Clinging to this second chance
Valiantly we tried
Nursing and encouraging
This one tiny life
But the separation
From mother and littermates
Left him too vulnerable
Alone just a little too long
But long enough to get sick
Far too young and defenseless
Without his mother’s milk
To sustain and protect him
His littermates’ warmth
To sustain and comfort him
One tiny life
Born only four weeks ago
Breathed his last
Cradled in my gentle embrace
Gone to the Rainbow Bridge
Taking with him
Our tears
Knowing
Our unconditional love
One tiny life
He knew he was not alone
He left his tiny pawprints
Forever imprinted
In our hearts

I Hear

I hear with my heart
Your gentle melody
Soft crescendos
rising and falling
Bridged by the symphony
Of your name

I hear with my mind
Your gentle medley
A simple
but complex rhyme
Spiralling and reverbrating
Higher and further
Each time our eyes meet

I hear with my soul
Your gentle ballads
Splashed
with octaves of indigo
Lullabying my fears
and insecurities away
Leaving satiated resonances

With my heart
My mind
And my soul
I hear the music
Of you.

Valentine’s Night

On this valentine’s night
In the soft glow of candlelight
Hold me close
Set my heartache free
Whisper my name
Silence my wistful sighs
Seduce me with your tongue
Capture my soul
With your silken cords
Let us dance
This sensual collaboration
An intimate sonnet of entwinement
With no beginning or ending
Skin to skin
Flesh to flesh
Merging in empathic union
A poetry of passionate rhythm
Bowing in submission to ecstasy
Velvet caverns effuse
The essence of sacred emotion
Come drink of me
Like a fine wine
Love me into forever

This Is What It Sounds Like To Be Deaf

candle_flame

Light a single candle
Watch
How the tapered flame dances
Now don’t breathe
Don’t whisper
Watch
How the dance slows
And the flame becomes perfectly still
Then
Only in that perfect stillness
Will you know
This is what it sounds like
To be deaf

drop_ripple

Drop a single pebble into a pond
Watch
How the ripples spread outward
Now don’t move
Don’t look away
Watch
How the ripples gradually disperse
Until the watery surface becomes perfectly quiet
Then
Only in that perfect quietness
Will you know
This is what it sounds like
To be deaf

eagle_fly

Follow the flight of an eagle
Watch
How its mighty wings conquer the heights
Now don’t look away
Don’t blink
Watch
How she floats in the air perfectly motionless
Then
Only in that perfect motionlessness
Will you know
This is what it sounds like
To be deaf

nude_window1

Enter a windowless room
Watch
As all the lights and LEDs are turned off
Now don’t panic
Don’t close your eyes
Watch
How the room becomes perfectly dark
Then
Only in that perfect darkness
Will you know
This is what it sounds like
To be deaf

Consider those visuals
See
How silence envelopes me
Now do you understand
Do you comprehend
Hear
The stillness…quietness..motionlessness…darkness..
Then
Only in that silence
Will you know
This is what it sounds like
To be deaf

Eagle

Soar the skies, Blithe Spirit
With wings bathed
In malines of sunlight
Your shadow
A fulminate dance of aerial glory
Evanescently painted on clouds

Glide
In graceful obliquity
To your engagement with destiny
Beyond earth’s succulent horizon
Your magnamious flight
Forever
A celebration of freedom
