For M’Lady

When I look into Her eyes
I see prophecies mirrored
She, the High-born Lady
And I, Her Eagle-boi-Knight
Have shared multiple lifetimes
Never with celerity
But as a slow dance
Spiraling on a celestial stairway
Our bond preserving
Over time…. space….distance

Sweet surrender
Decided long ago
By a knight’s heart
With no regrets
No bonds to restrain
Except my will
My own choice
Freely given then
Freely given even now
Never diminished by
Time…space…distance

She welcomes my offering anew each time
My sweat and tears baptize Her altar
Her temple built and sustained
By my steadfast honor and devotion
Untarnished by vague resolutions
The daughters of Artemis weep with envy
At the sight of Her courtyard
Not a simple vanilla flavored garden
But an unparalleled Eden
Landscaped with the roses of my obesiance

She grants me sanctuary in Her castle
Her aura is the source of sunshine in my days
And an unapologetic fire
Blazing through my nights
I hear Her voice clear
As a flute in my silences
Our karmas sketched across the stars
Affirm the sacred path we’ve traveled
With wonders beyond envisioning
Still to be found

Neither the allure of virgin nymphs
Nor the wealth of a thousand silver medallions
Can ever correspond
To this sacred bond between Her and I
Tis as if gossamer threads
Entwine and encircle
Two kindred souls
Closer than Heaven itself
Tender moments
Balancing pockets of consupiscence
In exquisitie symbiotic exchanges
A cosmic connection
That continues to shine
Amongst the stars
That grace the skies of eternity

M’Lady……
I kneel before You
In love, honor and devotion
My gift to You is my all

The Triple Crown

Years ago, a horse named Majestic Prince
Came along and captured my young heart
Now every May and June since
I’ve looked forward to the Big Three

First Saturday of May every year
There’s the Kentucky Derby
A mile and a quarter it is, you hear
The Run for the Roses is the first jewel

Then the focus moves to Maryland
For the second jewel of the Triple Crown
Maryland, My Maryland, plays the band
As throughbred’s finest line up for the Preakness

Then the mile and half Belmont Stakes
Three weeks later in New York
And the final test of what it takes
To win third and final jewel of the crown

Innocence

Innocence is a litter of puppies
Boxed and left beside the trash can
Their very existence treated as disposable
Their confused and scared whimpers go unheeded
Its not their fault their purebred mother mated with a strange mutt
How can anyone look into their eyes
And walk away without feeling guilt or grief?

Innocence is a litter of kittens
Dumped off on the side of the highway
They’re so young, their lives barely begun
Their mother no longer answers their cries
Their only crime was to be born
How can anyone look into their eyes
And turn away from the trust and love offered?

Innocence is the young dog
Hunting season is over, his work is done
He finds himself chained to the backyard tree
Nowhere to go but an endless circle
He whines and barks his question, ‘what did I do wrong?’
How can anyone look into his eyes
And not see the desperate sadness and loneliness?

Innocence is the adult cat
Suddenly cast into a strange cage at the pound
Huddled in fear and confusion
Bereft of the only home she has ever known
Abandoned by those she loved and trusted
How can anyone look into her eyes
And not feel the hurt and betrayal?

Innocence is the adult dog
Standing quietly in the pound kennel
His face intent on the door in the far end
Listening and waiting in vain for familiar footsteps
That will not come to take him away from death row
How can anyone look into his eyes
And not see hope die as his time grows short?

Innocence is needlessly being destroyed
By irresponsibility, cruelty and apathy
By erosion of sacrosanct reverence for life
They have no voice in which to speak in their defense
All they ever wanted was our love
How can anyone look into their eyes
And not see our own souls reflected there?

Golden Eagle Wings

Let me take you away
On golden eagle wings
To places you’ve never imagined
Where time stands still
Your heart and mine
Entwined in an adagio of gentle love
Beating in perfect synchronicity
Onward we will glide
Over the ethereal meadows of Xanadu
Scorning unelightened naysayers
Who would dare
Rend us asunder
Our shared smiles
And gentle kisses
Weaving harmonic strands of love
Like a violin
Building to a crescendo
Deeper and deeper within us

Our breaths
Mingle and echo
Of mutual yearnings
Avowing a connection
Stretching beyond the mists of time
You and I together
Are an unstoppable force
And when night falls
The stars will find it unbearable
To compete against the ankh glow
We create
Let me take you away
On golden eagle wings

Gentle Giant

you towered over me
your shoulder six feet
to my five feet five
your muscles rippling
underneath
bay brown skin
black mane
freely hanging
over your forehead
short tail
swishing lazily
graceful curves
belie powerful
hinquarters
four fringed
white socks
adorn your hooves
proud neck arches
while calm clear
brown eyes
gaze down at me
as your white blazed
velvet nose brushes
my outstretched hand
Clydesdale
gentle giant
indeed you are
