You must have watched
Many ships come and go
Sleek yachts with powerful engines
Purring promises of far-flung adventure
Sturdy cruisers full of youthful vigor
Offering heady romantic trysts
You could have chosen from amongst
The quiet confidence of pirogues
Gliding over the swamps under the stars
Or the strong sturdiness of tugboats
Willing to take on the challenges
Of unknown and unchartered waters
This ship had travelled far and wide
To find a safe harbor
The masts were bare
The sails taken down
Too tattered and worn
To endure one more storm

Who knows
I could have been content
Just to exist day by day
Drifting aimlessly
Let the currents of life
Carry me where ever they wished
If not for you…
Of all the ships that have sailed your seas
You gathered all your courage
And without a backward glance
Chose to follow your heart
And swam out to me…
No more days of drifting
Now that I have found you
No more nights of loneliness
Now that you share them with me
No more spaces of emptiness
Now that you fill me so completely
I want to ebb and flow with the tides
With you as my buoy and my anchor
I want to listen to the thunder of the rain
With you as my shelter and my protection
I want to soar and glide through the currents
With you by my side holding my hand
We have seen the Southern Cross
For the first time together
We understand how and why we came this way
And we both know this love will endure
For I have found my harbor in you
And you have found your ship in me
For Diana
